THE rape of five females in St James last week has sparked outrage throughout Jamaica, players in the music industry included.

Last Wednesday, several artistes came together to record Stand Against Rape at the Penthouse Recording Studio in St Andrew.

Producer Donovan Germain, owner of Penthouse Records, says the horrific incident inspired the song. He said he is distressed at the high level of crime in Jamaica.

“At some point you must be repulsed by certain behaviour, Enough is enough, really,” he told the Jamaica Observer.

On the song hears Marcia Griffiths, D-Major, Exco Levi, Ikaya, Shuga, Tessanne Chin, Queen Ifrica, Torch, Sherita Lewis and an insert from Buju Banton coming out against sexual assault.

According to Germain, the message is strong and goes straight to the heart of issues affecting Jamaica.

He urged producers and artistes to rid the music industry negatives.

“The music industry needs to seriously start addressing issues that affect the people. Enough of the ‘wining’, Hennessey, bad mind and how much money you have,” he said.

Police say the incident took place in Irwin Point, St James. Three girls were among the victims.

Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party, women’s and human rights groups have condemned the assault.

On Friday, thousands of persons responded to the call by Woman Inc to wear black in protest.
