Sizzla gives great show
SIZZLA Kalonji reeled off a steady flow of hit songs to a jam-packed Usain Bolt’s Tracks & Records in St Andrew on Tuesday night.
The reggae artiste was the guest performer in the weekly Behind the Screens Series concert held at the venue.
Though the limited space prevented scores of patrons from entering the lounge, this did not prevent them from enjoying the show from outside.
Backed by the Firehouse Band, Sizzla only needed to chant the opening lyrics to each of his songs before the audience took over and made it their own. During the first 30 minutes of his clean set, he did Holding Firm, Guide Over Us, Babylon Ah Listen, Show Us the Way, Just Like, and Praise Ye Jah.
Pausing to interact with his audience, Sizzla was very vocal about his dislike for rapists and the recent upsurge of violence against women and children.
“From the other day, some man a go ’round a rape the women and children dem. That is wrong, so mi bun out all rapists and paedophile,” he bellowed, much to the crowd’s approval.
Black Woman and Child, Thank You Mama, Make Dem Secure, Mama Mek Mi De Yah So, Give Me a Try, and Woman I Need You had the females in a frenzy. With screams and outstretched arms, they paid tribute to the August Town-born native.
This is the seventh staging in the weekly Behind The Screens series. Previous stagings of the event featured Tessanne Chin, Tifa, Christopher Martin, No-Maddz, I-Octane, and Konshens.
