TOTAL Summerbell Racing (TSR) team is poised to take home the 2012 Circuit Racing Championship title at the Heroes of Speed race meet at the Dover Raceway in St Ann on Monday.

What has not been decided, however, is which member of the TSR team will be champion driver. The battle is between David Summerbell Jr and defending champ Kyle Gregg. Both drivers are within four points of each other, with the advantage to Summerbell Jr.

“I’m pleased with the team results given this our first year together,” said Summerbell Jr at the meet’s press launch at the Spanish Court Hotel in New Kingston, St Andrew on Thursday.

“The cars are healthy and even though I don’t have the usual ATL pressure, I still can’t rest,” he continued.

Added pressure for Gregg will come from his own Modified Production 2 (MP2) class battle with Alan Chen, who sits just 12 points away.

“Alan has been pushing me all season, but I really hope Andre [Anderson] wins his races so we can have a Total 1,2,3 in the overall title,” Gregg said.

TSR member Andre Anderson is also in fight for both class honours, in his MP3 grouping with Dean Shaw, and third spot in the overall title chase with Sebastian Rae.

The MP 1 battle appears to be between Tarik Minott and Don Gilbert. Minott, however, said he is clear on his target.

“I have big plans for Monday. We’ve made improvements to the car and we expect to break our class lap record again and stay ahead of Natasha Chang,” said Minott.

Samantha Summerbell, in her first season of circuit racing, finds herself just half a point off the Bracket 38 third-place podium step. Another member of a local racing dynasty in the form of Spencer Whittingham leads that class.

Bracket 32 will be chess game between Sebastian Rae and Caymanian Gary Barrett. Barrett currently sits in second.

Andre Anderson hold a narrow points margin over his rivals George Bayley and Gary Williams in the Bracket 27 class. All three will be in the hunt for the top step of the podium.

“There’s no such thing as a friendly rivalry. It’s going to be all out war when I hit the track,” Bayley said.

In the bikes, Adrian Blake and Andrew Norman are 11 points apart in the A-class, while Robert McDonald is tipped to continue his clean sweep in B-class.
