SUNDAY’s meet, dubbed New Works Rally, in St Catherine has been postponed to a date to be announced.

The announcement was made yesterday by Rallysport Promotion Ltd on behalf of the Jamaica Millennium Motoring Club (JMMC).

According to Marcia Dawes, JMMC executive secretary, it was postponed due to low competitor interest.

For the competitors, this is the last chance for them to test their mettle before heading into the big finale on November 30.

The battle rages among a group of young guns: Spencer Whittingham, Matthew Gore, Daryl King, and Jordan Powell. The four are the most consistent in this genre of motorsport for the year.

Despite a round-one win, Whittingham is not ahead in the standings.

“There aren’t enough people in my class, so when I win, I get fewer points,” said Whittingham, who drives a Group N specification Lancer Evolution V.

His rivals ply their trade in the larger JA2 class for front-wheel drive naturally aspirated vehicles.

“The car is as ready as it ever will be. I’m looking forward to a direct challenge this time with Daryl and Jordan. I was able to beat the Group N cars at the last event so I’m going all out,” Gore told Auto.

For King, the second round was a matter of heartbreak as the Raynor King Memorial Rally saw him encounter mechanical problems which forced him out of the competition. That rally was named in honour of his late father.

“My main goal is to finish. We haven’t done any modifications to the car since the last dirt sprint. So if we can take a class or even an overall victory, I’d go for it,” King said.

Powell sees King as his main rival on the day.

“Both Matthew and I have points to protect. Daryl hasn’t finished an event and I think that makes him hungry for a win. That said, we just fixed a problem with the car and I’ll be flat out to take advantage of that,” said Powell.
