H’View inch closer to incentive final

Waterhouse……………….0 Harbour View…………….1 Harwood (30th)

HARBOUR View FC edged Waterhouse, 1-0, at Drewsland on Sunday to continue their relentless quest for a berth in the first End-of-Round Final in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL).

Nine minutes following a desperate clearance by Christopher Harvey off the line of a goal-bounded tap-in from Jermaine Anderson, Damian Harwood poached a goal that turned out to be the winner.

Coach Vin Blaine thought Harbour View could have scored another goal or so, but was satisfied with the three points.

“I thought we had about 70 per cent of the game. In the last part they came at us; they had to come at us to try to equalise, but we managed to hold them off as defended well.

“I thought we could’ve got two goals, but 1-0 was good enough as our aim is to get to the End-of-Round Final and with Boys’ Town also winning… this puts us ahead on 19 points.”

His opposite number Marcel Gayle said: “The final result was disappointing and what I think was responsible for this was that we took too long to organise and then when we did, our finishing was not clinical enough to profit from the chances created.”

In a largley uneventful game, there were two outstanding moments to remember — Harvey’s goal-saving effort when the game was barely 20 minutes old and a superb save by Waterhouse goalkeeper Kelso Cousins a little later in the half from a dipping and curling free kick from Jermaine Hue.

For those who believe age is a deterrent to good performance in all cases, the midfielder’s performances at age 34 continue to epitomise the value of experience.
