Police probe Burnt Savannah shooting
SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — The St Elizabeth police are investigating the shooting death of a Florida resident in Burnt Savannah early Saturday morning, just months after his older sister was similarly murdered in the same community and the night before the burial of his brother, who died from drowning.
Police say Conrad Oliver Dunkley, 57, a driver of Spanish Town and Florida addresses, was shot dead by a lone gunman in Burnt Savannah while attending the wake for his late brother Samuel Dunkley who died from drowning recently.
Police say, about 3:00 am, Conrad Dunkley went to his car to collect drinking cups when he was approached by an armed man who shot him four times. He died on the spot.
In July, Dunkley’s sister, 59-year-old grandmother Norris Dunkley was standing at her gate with her grandson when a gunman approached and shot her once in the head. Police say that murder remains unsolved.
The police told the Jamaica Observer that their probe would pursue the possibility that the three tragedies are all linked.
“There seems to be an underlying problem here,” said Deputy Superintendent Lanford Salmon, who is in charge of police operations in St Elizabeth.
“We have to explore the possibility of a link between the two murders and also the drowning as well,” said Salmon.
