TEENage Hitlist: Dog Bite Riddim – Washroom Entertainment
WHAT makes a hit? Is it the lyrics, the artiste, the hype at the time? Is it ‘something special’ about the voice or rhythm?
The TEENage Hitlist pinpoints the hits and the misses as soon as we hear both local and international releases.
Dog Bite Riddim – Washroom Entertainment
Washroom entertainment has decided to cap off a stellar 2012 run with their latest production entitled the Dog Bite Riddim. This is the group’s most hardcore dancehall release in recent memory, and features an array of artistes.
Odes to women that could fit the criteria for any ‘bad girls club’ casting can be found on Bad Gyal by Voicemail and Chico, Bad Up Di Luvy by Sanjay, and Gyal Mad Pon Di Thuggy by a baritone heavy TOK.
Yuh Si Yuh by Jr Daine, is a track where the upcoming dancehall artiste describes the attributes of a girl he admires, with Natel doing the same in a melodious sinjay manner on We Got All Night.
Tiana’s Mine Di Dog Bite Yuh is a Jim Screehie-like jam, similar to Spice’s, with some humour as well.
Dancehall heavyweights Spice and Tifa, deliver a collaborative anthem aimed at their detractors by rhetorically asking Why Yuh Mad, and Vital does the same in From Day One.
Sean Paul returns to juggling productions with Nuh Bodda With Them, a song dismissing hypocritical persons that aim to regress others.
Man-of-the-moment Konshens continues to prove his diversity as he executes a hard thumping aggressive number by being a Guerilla Forevah.
The Dog Bite Riddim is the type of release fitting for the traditional end of year belligerence that dancehall music is known for, and has a playlist deserving for solid radio play.
