Burrell endorses JFF’s new general secretary
PRESIDENT of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF), captain Horace Burrell, endorsed new general secretary designate Raymond Grant at a ceremony to certify this year’s batch of graduates from the JMMB/JFF/UTech coaching school on Monday.
The JFF boss said Grant, who will assume the role of acting general secretary until the process in complete, is the right man for the job.
Burrell pointed out that Grant has been very active in football administration, being president of the Portland Football Association and chairman of the Eastern Confederation.
“That speaks for his experience and he has done very well at that level,” Burrell declared.
“He also has a good temperament and once he continues on the same path, he’s going to blossom into a very good general secretary,” he told the Jamaica Observer.
Burrell noted that the young Grant has gained valuable knowledge and experience working under the former general secretary, and he believes with time and experience, he could excel.
“He would have learnt a lot from Horace Reid, who was an outstanding general secretary. Having received a lot of knowledge from him (Reid), it should make him a better general secretary in the future.
“We think he will blossom into that type of individual and he’s the kind of administrator that football needs right now,” Burrell added.
Grant was selected by the president to replace Reid, who after 18 years, left as the JFF’s second-in-command to take up the post of director of competitions at CONCACAF.
Grant, meanwhile, declined to speak with the Observer, saying he was waiting on the process to be completed before he publicly comments on his new position.
However, the Captain was confident Grant would make the organisation proud: “If I thought he never had the capability, I would never have selected him…. I selected him because I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside him for several years and I’m confident that he possesses the qualities and the ability…,” Burrell concluded.
