Jamaican teenager for FIFA refs’ course

MONTEGO BAY, St James — TEENAGED St James football official Ojay Duhaney has been invited to take part in a FIFA Member Association Elite Referees Course to be held in Kingston, starting today and ending Sunday.

The 18-year-old Cornwall College student has been included in a list of 31 football officials including FIFA referees and assistant referees to be guided by FIFA Refereeing Development Officer Peter Prendergast and Mr Alan Brown, FIFA referee fitness instructor.

Other western-based officials invited are FIFA referees Valdin Ledgister and Dwight Royal; FIFA assistant referees Kedlee Powell, Richard Washington and Antoinette Williams, one of six females in the course.

Also, assistant referees Nicholas Anderson and Princess Brown have also been invited to take part.

According to a release from the Jamaica Football Federation: “The course takes on greater significance as the region looks to the 2014 World Cup Finals and the possibilities for appointments”.

The group will go through a fitness test this morning, starting at 6 at stadium east.
