MONTEGO BAY, St James — SANDALS International has extended its sponsorship of the St James Football Association’s Under-17 and Under-20 summer football competitions for at least one more year and has promised to expand the programme.

At Thursday’s awards ceremony at Sandals Carlyle on Kent Avenue, Stephen Hector, director of global communications, said Sandals planned to continue their partnership with the FA and described it as ‘the tip of the iceberg’, confirming their sponsorship of the Senior League set to start next month.

Observer West had broken the news a month ago that Sandals had undertaken sponsor the Senior League, which was without a sponsor last season for the first time in decades.

Meanwhile, Mountain Villa United won the Adam Stewart Fair Play Trophy for the Under-17 competition while Paradise FC took the Gordon ‘Butch’ Stewart Award for the Under-20 competition.

Cornwall College, the winners of the Under-17, swept all four individual awards while Under-20 champions Reggae Youths won three of the four individual awards.

Cornwall College’s Romario Spence was named the Most Valuable Player in the Under-17 competition, Alrick Ottey was the top scorer, Leonardo Friginette was named the most outstanding goalkeeper, while Leacroft Lettman was the winning coach.

Club Stars were the losing finalists while Mountain Villa and Lilliput Rovers took third and fourth place respectively.

Ocarey Spence of Reggae Youths was the MVP for the Under-20 competition, his teammate Oneil Robinson was the top scorer and Oscar Irving took the award for the winning coach.

Little Miami’s Omar Mazlin was the top goalkeeper.

St James High were the runners-up in the Under-20 competition, Paradise was third with Tomorrow’s People fourth.
