Branded – Muna Shadeed

Sales and Marketing Director, Island Spice

How did you land the job?

Ever since I was much younger, I knew I wanted to work alongside my father at Island Spice. I saw that he worked hard and made many sacrifices for both our family and the company to succeed. I was proud of him and wanted to be part of such an extraordinary and prosperous business. I completed my education by graduating from university, during which I also gained over 10 years’ management experience. Having a bachelor’s degree has assisted me in many areas of my job. However, I truly believe it is the work experience that has really enabled me to understand and handle anything that is thrown at me.

How long have you been in the job?

I’ve been working at Island Spice for a little over a year now.

What’s great about your job?

It isn’t an average nine-to-five desk job. Each day I’m able to meet anyone and everyone from supermarket owners to restaurant owners to chefs, and of course, everyday Island Spice users. I love trading recipes and learning how a dash of this and a pinch of that spices up their lives. Jamaicans definitely love food and know exactly how things should taste. Knowing that Island Spice has been passed on from my grandmother’s traditional Sunday dinner to new-age, dynamic food fusions makes me feel content.

Tell us something that we might not know about the Island Spice brand.

I think the majority of people are only aware of our dry spices and readily associate our brand with powdered seasonings; however, we have a much larger variety of products such as flavourings, sauces, coat & bakes, and our newest addition, pepper jellies. We also promote a healthier lifestyle by guaranteeing that all of our products are MSG FREE!

What makes Island Spice an attractive option for consumers?

The distinctive quality of our products is hard to deny. We pay extra attention to being consistent, flavourful, and locally made. Secondly, price is a great concern for people these days with our economy, so we try to establish an affordable price point for everyone. We ensure that our consumers get what they pay for. Last, but definitely not least, customer service is key at Island Spice. Since we are a family-owned company, we strive to keep that personal relationship between ourselves and our consumers, suppliers, distributors, and of course, our employees.

Where can consumers find out more about your brand?

Consumers can find out more about our brand online at https://www.islandspice.com or find us on Facebook for lots of upcoming events, pictures, recipes, and other fun facts.
