ISSA/Busta age-group titles on the line

SANTA CRUZ, St Elizabeth — Cornwall College will have a psychological advantage when they take part in two of the four ISSA/Busta Under-14 and Under-16 finals to be played at St Elizabeth Technical Sports Complex in Santa Cruz today.

Cornwall, who have won three of the last four all-rural Under-14 finals, will take on St Elizabeth Technical (STETHS) in one game and Manchester High in the Galloway Cup Under-16 final in the other.

Meanwhile, Clarendon College and Glenmuir High will face-off in the Abner Wright Under-16 final at Foga Road High, starting at 3:00 pm, after Vere Technical and Seaforth High meet in the other Under-14 final, also at Foga Road, at 1:30.

Both all-rural finals, the Under-14 and Under-16 will be decided on Monday at a venue to be decided.

Cornwall advanced to the Under14 final after scoring a 2-0 win over Lacovia High in Tuesday’s semi-final in Montego Bay, while STETHS beat Manchester 4-2 on penalties at Manchester.

In the other Under-14 section, Vere beat Happy Grove and Seaforth beat Charlemont on Tuesday, both at Dinthill Technical.

In the Under-16 game, the Cornwall team includes a number of players who were part of the Under-14 team that won two straight Under-14 all-rural titles and three who are a part of the daCosta Cup team.

On Tuesday, Cornwall beat Rusea’s, 3-1, in their Galloway Cup semi-finals, while Manchester beat Godfrey Stewart, 2-0.

On Wednesday, Clarendon beat Spalding, 2-1, in the Abner Wright semi-final, while Glenmuir edged Paul Bogle, 1-0.
