No Doubt’s designs on reggae
POP band No Doubt has never been shy about its reggae influences, having fused the sound for some of its biggest hits and worked with the music’s hottest acts.
Its latest collaboration takes its appreciation to another level.
The quartet is collaborating with British fashion brand Fred Perry to produce reggae-inspired clothes to be released in 2013. The British press reported yesterday that No Doubt members — singer Gwen Stefani, bassist Tony Kanal, drummer Adrian Young, and guitarist Tom Dumont — have designed three pieces for the hip brand.
They include a unisex slim-fit shirt that features embellished details on the sleeves and collar in the reggae (red, green and gold) colours, which will be priced at $95.
There is also a punk-inspired tartan-check V-neck sweater, with a proposed tag of $170, and a $250 1950s bomber. The shirt will be available in January 2013, while the other items will go on sale in the spring.
Stefani’s off-beat fashions have made her one of modern pop music’s most distinguishable figures. She launched her Japanese-inspired clothing line LAMB in 2004, followed by Harajuku Lovers in 2005.
In 2000, the band visited Jamaica and recorded songs for their Rock Steady album which was co-produced by Sly and Robbie.
That album yielded the hit songs Hey Baby with Bounty Killer and Underneath it All which was done with Lady Saw.
Recently, they collaborated with deejay Busy Signal on the song, Push and Shove.
