Stone Love celebrates 40 years
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Stone Love sound system celebrates its 40th anniversary Saturday evening with a dance at the Red Stripe Oval off Spanish Town Road in Kingston.
But on Monday, members of the Stone Love crew along with Chiney K Productions and New Supreme Finance Ltd gave the homeless in downtown Kingston a Christmas treat.
Paul Lowe-Chin, head of Chiney K Productions, estimates that over 300 persons gathered in the vicinity of the Supreme Court on King Street to receive hot meals.
“The people were orderly and everybody was grateful for the meal. It was a proper thing,” said Lowe-Chin.
Stone Love was founded in 1972 by Winston ‘Wee Pow’ Powell. The sound system figured prominently in the international emergence of dancehall during the 1990s, playing to audiences in the Caribbean, Europe and North America.
