Saturday Hustle – December 29
Whether you are hosting or attending a New Year’s Eve Party, music is essential to enjoying the celebrations that will come with ringing in 2013. Saturday Hustle shares a few of our picks.
One More Time – Daft Punk
One more time/We’re gonna celebrate/Oh yeah, all right/Don’t stop the dancing
One More Time is a single by Daft Punk released in 2000 and later included on the album Discovery. No one will notice how melancholic the song’s lyrics are, but you’ll be captivated by the infectious beat.
Celebration – Kool & The Gang
There’s a party goin’ on right here/ A celebration to last throughout the years/ So bring your good times and your laughter too/ We gonna celebrate your party with you
Celebration is a number one hit song released in 1980 by Kool & the Gang from their album Celebrate! It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 7, 1981, and held that position for two weeks. It is the ultimate feel-good hit and a must-have on your party playlist.
Auld Lang Syne – Lea Michele
Should auld acquaintance be forgot/And never brought to mind/Should auld acquaintance be forgot/And auld lang syne/For auld lang syne, my dear
No party will be complete without the traditional New Year’s Eve anthem! It was originally written by Robert Burns in 1788 and has been covered by a number of singers. One of our favourite modern covers is by Glee star Lea Michele.
The Final Countdown – Europe
We’re leaving together/But still it’s farewell/And maybe we’ll come back, To earth, who can tell?
Swedish band Europe released The Final Countdown in 1986. The single, which was written by Joey Tempest, was the first single from the band’s third studio album. Its highly metaphorical lyrics speak of change in the New Year.
The New Year – Death Cab for Cutie
So this is the New Year. / And I don’t feel any different. / The clanking of crystal / Explosions off in the distance (in the distance)
The song speaks of lovers apart on New Year’s Eve. Though the lyrics are sad, the brilliance of the instrumentals and the vocals are a powerful ode to the holiday.
1999 – Prince
If you didn’t come to party/don’t bother knockin’ on my door
1999 is the title track from Prince’s 1982 album of the same name. To this day, the song remains one of his most renowned singles. It is the ultimate party starter and is guaranteed to get everyone on their feet.
