Traffic tickets causing traffic

I believe that they should get things in order with the amnesty before they come out and say anything, because I don’t think it makes sense to arrest people for outstanding tickets.

We are all going through a hard time. So arresting them makes no sense because what will happen to their families if the person is the sole provider of the household?

I understand that they wanted to make the punishment a little harsh so as to encourage people to find the money to pay, but the reality is that if you don’t have it you just don’t!

Now that the deadline has passed and people are bringing in the money, they are still not taking it!

That makes no sense!

Was the amnesty worth it?

They say they have raised about $300 million dollars from this Amnesty and as such they have extended it.

But overall, people owe over $2.2 billion dollars in traffic tickets so what they raised is a significant shortfall.

This goes to show that the public does not take the authorities seriously, which could be due to their consistent incompetence.

Govt all about the ‘Shearers

It is a good initiative by the government to collect additional revenue as it is money they would not have collected so it is a good idea.

However, it just goes to show that they are only about the money. No proper systems were put in place to adequately facilitate persons who went about paying.

There is a lot of confusion for instance, the issue with the vehicles for government officials. When the previous administration was in power they ranted and had a serious problem with the Prime Minister getting a new and a certain type of vehicle.

Now, they have justified the purchase of vehicles that costed the country millions of dollars for a bill that could have been considerably lower if the vehicles were bought with idea of purpose, which is to serve rather than luxury and preference.

They could have saved millions of dollars which could have aided a relief fund or help construct a proper juvenile facility.

How are we to move forward?

BASED on my 21 years in this country I have noticed that those elected to govern Jamaica are somewhat on the selfish side and they don’t stay true to their words.

They will voice that they want the best for Jamaicans, but seem to only ensure that they have the best cars, live in the best houses, and in relative comfort, while those they fete during election time are left to suffer.

Don’t get me wrong, Jamaicans should work for their own bread, but if those in charge show favouritism to their friends to ensure that they move forward the rest will always be left behind.

With that being said, the leaders of the country need to put aside self and think more about, how we can move Jamaica forward?
