MEGA MART Magics, North Street Heats, Upper Room Church, Pembroke Hall, and LinkUp All-stars emerged winners in game one of their Hi-Lyte/Insports South Conference Community Basketball League best-of-three quarter-final series after games on Sunday.

At Pembroke Hall courts, North Street Heats defeated Aqua Youths 68-57, while the home team stopped Hagley Park Thorns 59-42.

Astley Marshall and Jevon Hylton led the way for the Heats in their win with 17 and 13 points, respectively, while Aqua’s Carlong Gray was the game’s top-scorer with 18 points and 10 rebounds.

In the other game, the hosts, with 20 points from Andrew Bell, proved too strong for Hagley Park, whose Kevin Daley top-scored with 21 points.

At the Edgewater Courts, Mega Mart Magics turned back Portmore Blazers 73-67, thanks to a game-high 34 points from Damion Richards. Gary Reid was Blazers’ top-scorer with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Magic led 21-15 after the first quarter and 36-33 at half-time, and won the third period by a point to lead 51-47 at the end of the third quarter.

And although the Blazers pressed them all the way, they held on to take the final quarter 22-20, and the game by six points.

Meanwhile, LinkUp Allstars with 17 points and 13 rebounds from Sheldon Little, and 13 points from Aquaie Ferguson, scored an 18-point win over Blazin Panthers.

Jermaine Patterson and Christopher Crawford were the top-scorers for Panthers with 22 and 10 points, respectively.

After a closely contested first-half, which saw LinkUp leading 19-18 after the first quarter, and the game tying 32-32 at half-time, the Allstars came out and dominated the third quarter, winning the period 27-13 to go into the last quarter leading 59-45.

They then took the last segment 18-14 for a convincing win at the end.

In the lone game at Tivoli Courts, Gavin Duncan scored a game-high 19 points, followed by Nicholas Venson with 10 points and 10 rebounds, as Upper Room Church defeated Sky Legends 60-33. Luke Cooke top-scored for the Legends with 10 points.

The quarter-finals were set to continue last night with Denham Town down to face Norman Gardens at 6:00, while Arnett Gardens were up against Braves, and Rae Town were to take on Spanish Town, both at 7:30 at the Edward Seaga Courts.

Game two for Sunday’s games will take place today also at the Edward Seaga courts.
