20,000 participants registered for Sigma 5k Run
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Registered participants in the annual Sagicor/Sigma 5k Run reached a record 20,000 on Friday’s cut-off date, the organisers have reported.
“At Sagicor, we believe strongly in doing the impossible. Setting 20,000 as our target this year was ambitious, but we knew that with good organisation and support from patriotic Jamaicans and dedicated private sector entities that this feat could be accomplished,” Donovan Perkins, President and CEO of Sagicor Investments said after attaining the target.
The triumph is just shy of 4,000 more than the over 16,000 participants in 2012.
This year’s Sigma 5k is scheduled for Sunday, February 17 under the theme ‘Healthy Spaces, Smiling Faces’.
The Jamaica National Children’s Home, Bustamante Hospital for Children and Best Care Lodge are the beneficiaries of all proceeds earned from this year’s run, the organisers said.
