All systems go for karters on Sunday
JAMAICA Karting Association (JKA) opens its season at the Palisadoes International Raceway in Kingston on Sunday.
Neil Williams, JKA president, is pleased with the crop of youngsters who are staking their claim in the sport. He is also shifting things up for an exciting 2013 season.
“It’s amazing the talent we’re producing in Jamaica,” Williams said, given the excellent performances of Thomas Issa, Colin Daley Jr and Josuha and Justin Sirgany in the Florida Winter tour last month.
“Thomas [Issa] pretty much dominated and is pretty much on his way to securing a spot in the Karting World Championship,” he said.
The karting body has revamped its 80cc class which was an entry level into the sport. That has now shifted to the 50cc Baby Karts slot.
“Jetcon and Spanish Court Hotel have donated eight 80cc engines,” said Williams.
That investment has led to a raft of more race-oriented changes to usher competitors into the upper classes.
