Glass Slippaz, Jambiz Productions’ Jamaican take on the popular fairytale Cinderella, leads the pack going into this year’s Actor Boy Awards with a total of 11 nominations.

The Actor Boy Awards recognises excellence in Jamaican theatre.

Written By Patrick Brown, Glass Slippaz has a shot at taking home the Actor Boy statuette in key categories including: Best Production, Best Director ( Brown and Trevor Nairne), Best Lead Actor — Donald Anderson, Best Supporting Actress — Sharee McDonald Russell, Best Comedy and Best Set Design.

In the Best Production category Glass Slippaz is pitted against Ruined, Mr & Mrs Blacke, Yard 2012 and The Messiah.

The Actor Boy Awards, a presentation of the International Theatre Institute Jamaica Centre, will be handed out on March 25 at the Little Theatre in St Andrew.

This year’s special honouree is popular beauty queen and theatre practitioner Cathi Levy. Past honourees have included actress Leonie Forbes, actor Oliver Samuels, the School’s Drama Festival and the School of Drama at the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

Three productions — Ruined , Father Richard Ho Lung’s The Messiah and Aston Cooke’s Jamaica 50 To Rhatid — tie for second place. Each has received eight nominations.

Ruined is in the running in such categories as Best Director — Eugene Williams, Best Lead Actor — Carl Williams, Best Lead Actress — Risanne Martin, Best Drama and Best Set Design.

The Messiah has nods for most of the technical areas including original score, song, effects, lighting and set design. While Jamaica 50 to Rhatid scores for choreography, song, new Jamaican play and supporting actress — Dahlia Harris and Deon Silvera among others.

A total of six production have each received five nominations. These are Mr & Mrs Blacke, the revival of Stanley, Fay, Palarchie and P, God’s Way 2, One Smart Pig, The Anancy Chaptaz — Gold Rush and the national Pantomime Skoolaz.

Other productions which have received nominations are Bellywoman Bangarang, Dangerous Ambitions, Bedward, Whiplash, Two Can Play, Old Story Time and Yard 2012.
