‘Bumpy’ Beckford disqualified for holding in The Contender Series
KINGSTON, Jamaica — As the Wray and Nephew The Contender series continue, week three Wednesday saw Glenroy ‘Bumpy’ Beckford disqualified in a middleweight six-round bout with Canada-based Richard Reittie.
Beckford was finally penalised in round five for persistent holding after loosing a point earlier in the bout for the same offence.
For this season of The Contender, 16 professional boxers will compete for the first prize of J$1 million and the title of Jamaica’s Ultimate Middleweight Contender. The second place winner will receive $500,000, third place $250,000 and fourth place $200,000.
