Young Boyz draw 2-2 with Barbados
CHORRERA, Panama—Jamaica gave up the lead twice to draw with Barbados 2-2 at the Estadio Muquita Sanchez today, but could still sneak into the quarter-final of the CONCACAF Under-17 Championship.Jamaica—Nicholas Nelson, Oneil Anderson, Rushane McClymont, Khallil Stewart, Nathaniel Leslie, Zachary Jones (Malcolm Dixon 53rd), Seigle Knight, Maalique Foster (John Levee 61st), Junior Flemmings, Raffique Bryan (I’ishmale Currie 82nd), Michael Seaton.Barbados—Keon Harding, Carl Hinkson, Andre Blackman (Kyle Yearwood 81st), Ramar Millar, Ranaldo Bailey, Rosean Brathwaite (Rasheed Clarke 59th), Shaquille Boyce, Shakille Belle, Sebastien Hunte, T’Shane Lorde (Damian Clarke 71st), Edward Okey
Striker Raffique Bryan handed the Jamaicans the lead with a chipped effort in the seventh minute, but Shaquille Boyce pulled Barbados level with an equally composed finish in the 17th minute.
Jamaica captain Junior Flemming (37th minute) grabbed his second goal of the tournament — both penalties — to restore the one-goal lead heading into the half-time interval.
However, 10 minutes into the second half, the Bajans made it 2-2 when Shakille Belle struck the ball into the net from close range.
The Jamaicans have two points from as many matches – to lead Group A — after previously drawing with home team Panama.
Barbados and Panama, who meet each other on Wednesday, follow with one point a-piece.
A win for either team will allow Jamaica to progress to the quarters as the second-placed team from the group. A draw, which would leave all three countries tied on two points, could also see the Jamaicans advance.
Only the top two countries from each of the four groups will make the quarter-final stage.
