John Mills make it 19 in a row

DEFENDING champions John Mills made it 19th straight wins as they amassed a combined score of 528 points to capture the 35th staging of the 2013 Institute of Sports (INSPORTS)/Hi-Lyte All-Age and Junior High Schools Athletics Championships which ended at the National Stadium yesterday.

It was a commanding victory by the Ransford Spaulding-coached John Mills, who outshone their rivals once again with a dominant display in the two-day championships. Last year they won with a total of 546.50 points and were just short of overhauling that target. It was also their 21st triumph overall.

Second placed was the Owen Henry-coached Windward Road, who finished with 289 points. Third was Louise Bennett-Coverley with 170 points, followed by Cockburn Gardens, 166.83, Swalllowfield, 152.16, Rock Hall, 97.16, Constant Spring, 89, and New Day 86.

John Mills also captured the boys’ and girls’ sections, respectively. They won the boys’ section with 265.33 points, ahead of Windward Road, 152, and Swallowfield, 106.16, while taking the girls’ with 263 points ahead of Windward Road, 137, and Cockburn Gardens with 84 points.

John Mills also broke the Class One boys’ 4×100 metres relay record with a new time of 44.81 seconds to erase the old mark of 45.1 seconds (hand time) they set in 2001.

Meanwhile, the Class One boys’ 100- metre final was won by Devante Barrette of John Mills in a time of 11.78 seconds ahead of Lorenzo Cooper of Swallowfield 11.87, while the Class One girls’ 100m final was won by Demesha Roswell of Cockburn Gardens (12.18) from Shanay Livermore of John Mills (13.24).

Ryan Hamilton of Beulah All-Age captured the Class Two boys’ 100m in 12.32 seconds by Kadeem Smith of John Mills, who did 12.36 seconds. Krisancia Sang of John Mills was the winner of the Class Two girls’ 100m final in 13.08 seconds ahead of Nastascia McKenzie of Windward Road with 12.16 seconds.

Andy Williams of New Day won the Class Three boys’ 100m in 12.68 seconds with the Class Three girls’ 100m final won by Sasheka Wedderburn of Maverley in 13.82 seconds. Tanaya Davis of Green Park won the Class Four girls’ 100m in 13.94 seconds, while the Class Four boys’ 100m final was won by Brandon Williams of Seaward Primary in

13.61 seconds.

Joshua Darby of John Mills captured the Class One boys’ 200m in 23.07 seconds with Tizadie Johnson of John Mills winning the Class One girls’ 200m in 26.93. Shakeem Campbell of Rest Primary won the Class Two boys’ 200m in 25.13, with the Class Two girls’ 200m won by Krisancia Sang of John Mills in 27.41 seconds.

Shevelle Lewis of Windward Road was the winner of the Class Three girls’ 200m in 28.05 seconds with Andy Williams of New Day winning his second gold, the Class Three boys’ 200m in 26.52. Shakell Stewart of Windward Road won the Class Four boys’ 200m in 27.96 with the Class Four girls’ 200m won by

Kirshawna Wallace of Shortwood in 29.31 seconds.

Meanwhile, the girls’ 800 metres sprint medley open was won by Cockburn Gardens in 2:06.72 minutes ahead of John Mills (2:08.71), while the boys’ 1600m sprint medley was won by Swallowfield in a time of 4:09.82 ahead of John Mills (4:11.49) and Rock Hall (2:11.55).

John Mills won the girls’ 4×400 metres relay open in a time of 4:17.69 ahead of Swallowfield (4:31.14) and Windward Road (4:31.74), while the boys’ 4x400m relay open final was also won by John Mills in a time of 3:37.94 ahead of Maverley (3:45.81) and Swallowfield (3:48.19).
