More Jamaicans for Penn Relays
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Six more Jamaican athletes have been confirmed for a Penn Relays lineup that already includes double Olympic 100m champion Shelley Ann Fraser Pryce.
The six are all athletes of the MVP Track Club, Nesta Carter, Sherone Simpson, Kaliese Spencer, Shericka Williams, Anneisha McLaughlin and Christine Day, according to the club.
The events in which the seven will compete have not yet been made public but it’s expected that Fraser-Pryce will lead the women’s sprint relay team, which should include Simpson.
The Jamaican team’s prospects for a win were strengthened with the announcement that Carmelita Jeter, the second fastest woman ever in the 100m, will miss the meet due to an injury suffered last weekend.
The three-day relay carnival begins in Philadelphia this Thursday.
