PHILADELPHIA, USA — The heats of the 4x100m and 4x800m relays, as well as several individual events, will take the spotlight for the boys today as they go into action at the 119th Penn Relays Carnival here in Philadelphia at Franklin field on the campus of the University of Pennsylvania.

Wolmer’s Boys’ will begin their quest for a record-tying fourth straight 4x100m title and first time since 1932 and 1935 by Mercesberg Academy of Pennsylvania, but will have tremendous competition from a handful of Jamaican teams led by Munro College, Kingston College and debutants Green Island High and dark horses Calabar High.

Ardenne, Hydel, Jamaica College, Manning’s and St Jago will also take part.

The Jamaicans are not expected to feature in the 4x800m, but Holmwood Technical’s, Jamaica College, St Jago, Munro College and Bellefield High will fly the Jamaican flag.

The discus throw, shot put and javelin are down to be decided with the bulk of the events coming on tomorrow’s third and final day of competition. The heats and finals of the 4x400m as well as the long, triple and high jumps will take place tomorrow.

After Holmwood Technical Gleneve Grange’s heroics in setting a new National Junior Record yesterday, Calabar’s IAAF World Youth and World Junior champion Fedric Dacres will have his work cut out as he seeks to end his high school career in a blaze of glory after placing third last year.

Dacres is the number one-ranked thrower here and will have with him three Munro College throwers in Jevaughn Shaw, the Class One bronze medal winner at Champs; Kino Dunkley, the Class Two champion and new record holder Drexel Maycock.

Calabar throwers Basil Bingham and Oshane Chambers will also take part.

Kingston College’s CARIFTA Games Under-20 shot put champion Chadwick daCosta, Christopher Brown of Calabar and Rushane Byfield of Jamaica College will take part in the shot put, while Linkoy Tucker of Jamaica College will be the only Jamaican in the javelin throw.
