UWI men win medley at Penn
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of the West Indies, Mona won the men’s sprint medley at the Penn Relays while an American university, aided by three Jamaican students, took the women’s equivalent Friday.
The UWI team of Kavean Smith, Duwayne Ferguson, Nicholas Maitland and Jowayne Hibbert took the event in 3:17:81 seconds, over Mississippi State who ran 3:18:32 and defending champions Penn State who finished in third with 3:18:32.
Meanwhile, Louisiana State University (LSU) took the women’s event after they ran 3:44:26 seconds to regain their title lost last year to Tennessee State.
The LSU team was made up of Jamaicans Latoya McDermott, Nikita Tracey, Natoya Goule and American Kimberlyn Duncan.
Duke University copped the runner up spot in 3:46:43 while the University of Miami was third (3:50:72).
LSU has won six of the last seven sprint medley events at the Penn Relays.
Meanwhile, Jamaican long jumper Damar Forbes, who attends LSU, won his pet event in 7.90 metres.
