These are good times for singjay Demarco. He has a hit song rocking the dancehall and says his fan base has expanded to one of the genre’s rising markets.

Demarco, whose latest hit is Continue Wine, is expected to return to Africa next month for dates in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Guinea. It will be his second visit to the Motherland; his first came last August to Ghana and Uganda.

According to Demarco, the shows in Dome, Ghana and Lugogo Cricket Oval in Kampala, Uganda drew large audiences.

The Portmore-reared Demarco is the latest dancehall artiste to make inroads in the growing African market.

Sizzla, Beenie Man, Sean Paul, Elephant Man and Shaggy have performed throughout the continent during the last five years.

Demarco credits making songs with relevance for him being around for nearly a decade.

“My success is writing and recording songs that everyone can relate to… it isn’t about the hype. Not everyone can relate to driving the fanciest cars or wearing brand name clothes so I tend not so sing about such stuff,” he told Splash.

Prior to his African trip, Demarco says he is scheduled to break new ground by performing in the United Arab Emirates for the first time. He has other shows in The Bahamas, Bermuda, Washington DC, Atlanta, Georgia and Toronto, Canada.

Demarco (Colin Edwards) started his music career as a selector for the sound system Future Disco.

Since his recording debut in 2004, he has released popular songs like Fallen Soldiers, True Friend, I Love my Life and My Confessions.
