There’ll be a big winner tonight for the Best Dressed Chicken ‘Di Favourite Food Spot’ in the Jamaica Observer Food Awards. From hot jerk joints to cool sport bars, each holds a special place within the hearts and bellies of their fans.

B&E’s Chicken Express

Bog Walk, St Catherine

B&E’s Chicken Express is a fast food restaurant with a traditional flavour serving up delicious burgers, chicken in a variety of styles, flavours and presentations. If you’re in for a quick fix to tantalise your taste buds while filling up, check out their jerk chicken with wedges, festival; chicken burgers wraps and sandwiches or their famous stamp and go. Give them a try, your taste buds will thank you.

Scotchies Drax Hall

Drax Hall, St Ann

For your taste of Jamaican jerk in a casual, relaxed outdoor setting, Scotchies Drax Hall is the perfect location, and a natural favourite for those who have sampled their menu. You will find that there is nothing regular about their varied offerings which continuously pull customers to this cool location. See Scotchies Drax Hall for all things jerk including pork, chicken, and fish, as well as pork and chicken sausages; complemented by various additions including roast yam, festival, and bammy. And, if you’re in for a new treat, why not check out their “done to order” vegetable platter?

Chewsday’s Restaurant Grill & Jerk

Braeton Parkway (Portmore Pines Main Road), St Catherine

Offering an affordable, family friendly and low-key atmosphere with high-standard delicious food Chewsday’s specialises in pleasing the palate with every dish they serve. From a curious selection of pastas – many paired with chicken and shrimp, to a variety of chicken dishes, quesadillas, and wraps; they have it all. The restaurant offers both take out and dining, plus delivery in Portmore and select corporate companies in Kingston.

Rus Bucket

Rus Bucket is a fairly new deli off Old Harbour Road that offers classic meals whether take-out, or dining in a lovely ambience. Whichever way – it’s a place you can feel good about eating. They serve breakfast with a twist, and you can select from a combination of items, including sweet and spicy chicken, ackee wrap, scrambled eggs and sausages – alongside your choice of a hot or cold beverage. For lunch or a quick evening meal, check Rus Bucket for chicken a selection of pastries, cakes, wraps, a wide range of chicken burgers, fish burgers, and sub sandwiches. Salad lovers can have their pick as well, as this deli caters for your every gastronomic need.

Fyah Side Jerk and Bar

Toll Gate, Clarendon

Whether breakfast, lunch, or dinner, including servings of traditional jerk chicken, pork or sausage, see Fyah Side Jerk Bar. Their name isn’t the only thing that’s blazing hot, and their menu says it all. If you prefer fish, they offer that too, whether steamed, escoveitch, or fried, you will be treated to an adventure in taste, complemented by side orders – fry or steamed bammy, festival, bread rolls, French fries and fried breadfruit. Plus with one of the “hottest” rated corned-pork soup – a favourite that keeps customers coming back, they have you covered.

Cuddyz

New Kingston

Almost a decade ago, Cricket Legend, Courtney Walsh introduced Cuddyz, Jamaica’s definitive Sports Bar to New Kingston. Cuddyz has maintained its standing as the go-to bar for consistently great tasting heartily portioned dishes with a vibe that welcomes sports fanatics as well as the corporate lunch crowd. If you want to catch a glimpse of the legend himself, it’s as good a spot as any. We’ll find out if Cuddyz fans have voted it number one in the “Best Dressed Chicken ‘Di Favourite’ Food Spot” in this evening’s awards.

South Avenue Grill

South Avenue, Kingston

Tucked away in a cosy South Avenue enclave, just minutes away from the bustle of the Constant Spring retail centre, South Avenue Grill is known as much for its extensive international and local menu as it is for its exceptional customer service. They boast a menu that can transport you on a culinary journey from the heart of New Orleans with their Cajun Chicken, to the City of Love with a divine Chicken Alfredo, then to Asia with a Thai Coconut Curry and Teriyaki Chicken. The ambience is elegant yet relaxed with the main dining area surrounding a tranquil water feature.

Lyming at Walkerswood

In the breezy, cool hills of Walkerswood is a classic Jamaican lyming spot replete with old-world wooden Adirondack chairs next to wood and bamboo furniture for lazy outdoor ‘vibesing’. Catering mostly to a local clientele, the menu hits the spot for cross-country excursion food stops – classic jerk: aromatic, and delicious. Each Tuesday and Thursday, Lymers’ can enjoy the Walkerswood famous Curried Chicken. On the last Sunday of the month, the team turns out a brunch spread that’s a big hit with the Sunday brunching crowd, and is easy on the pocket.

Scotchies Kingston

New Kingston

This North-coast jerk fixture branched out into the capital and has been an unmitigated hit with the same countryside-chill vibe and quality jerk offerings. A popular place to chill and chow down any day of the week, Scotchies is ablaze with energy on Friday nights.

The Pork Pit

Montego Bay, St James

The Pork Pit has been one of the North Coast’s most enduring eateries – with a traditional Jerk grill in operation since the eighties. The family-friendly restaurant is designed for patrons to cool out indoors or enjoy the excitement of dining al fresco around the outdoor grill. The award-winning spot attributes it success to the consistency and high quality of its food and loyal clientele.
