Mona Heights Primary rewards top writers
SIX-YEAR-OLD Roneilla Powell and 10-year-old Breanna Marsh have been judged the two top writers for 2013 at Mona Heights Primary.
The two wrote a series of short essays for the 2013 Mona Heights Primary School Writing Competition. They were each awarded Huawei media electronic tablets and $5,000 cash.
“I feel fine. I feel good,” said Powell, a grade one student, whose main essay was ‘Myself as a clock’.
Her mom Renee Lindo said she has consistently helped her daughter with her work.
Marsh, who was performing in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) dance competition at the University of Technology on the same day of the awards said her hard work paid off.
“Well, it wasn’t really surprising, because I’ve put a lot of hard work into it and I feel real good,” Marsh said.
Her main essay was ‘If I was principal for a day’.
School administrators said the competition was created as a means of improving students’ writing skills.
The prize giving ceremony was held on the St Andrew school’s compound on May 29.
