Bolt wants to dominate sprints for the next four years
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt says he is not worried about racing American Justin Gatlin at the Rome Diamond League Thursday, adding that he is focused on dominating athletics for the next four years.
Bolt, who was speaking at a press conference in the Italian capital today, said that while Gatlin is in “good shape”, he’s not worried as “it’s all about championships. I am just focusing on myself”.
Gatlin, the Olympic 100m bronze medallist from London last year, has a season’s best of 9.91 seconds and has already won two legs of the 14-meet Diamond League meet.
However, the triple world record-holder has history on his side, having won the last two 100m events at Rome’s Golden Gala.
Bolt won with 9.91 second in 2011 and last year set the meet record of 9.76 seconds.
Former World Champion Kim Collins will also line up in the event.
Bolt said that despite having accomplished all his dreams, he still has goals to achieve, including extending his sprint dominance.
“I want to continue to dominate on the world stage in the next four years with hard work but I also want to continue enjoying my sport.”
And relating to upcoming Jamaican athletes who may challenge his dominance, Bolt said, “there will always be new Jamaican talented sprinters coming out. I saw at the Youth Championships in my country that there are young guys who are running fast but I still beat them.”
