Poor turnout, great performance
IT may have been the most poorly attended of the weekly Behind the Screen series at Usain Bolt’s Tracks and Records, but on Tuesday night the quartet LUST performed as if they were before a full house.
Since this live music showcase started nearly one year ago, the attendance levels have fluctuated. Artistes such as Bounty Killer, Konshens, Etana and I-Octane have drawn capacity crowds.
Some blamed a clash of dates with the Jamaica/Honduras World Cup football qualifier for Tuesday’s poor turnout.
Whatever the reason, the appreciative audience saw Lukie D, Thrilla U, Singing Melody and Tony Curtis give another signature performance. Their voices rang out in harmony as they took the stage with an a capella rendition of The Beatles’ Let It Be. What followed was a string of hits from individual members as well as the collective.
Songs such as You’re The Inspiration, Got Me, Run Free and their number one hit from 1998, Sweetness of Your Love, all earned sustained applause.
Among Lukie D’s individual songs were Miss You Like Crazy, My Treasure and So Many Ways. Thrilla U would drop I’ll Never love This Way Again, Innocent Man and Island in The Stream.
Tony Curtis’ set included Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing, I Believe I Can Fly and the popular High Grade. Singing Melody gave the audience Let It Flow, his original Say What and Broken Hearted Melody.
The group’s revival segment was well received. Hear My Cry, What a Mighty God, Fly Away, Rivers of Babylon and Real Real made this playlist.
It was near 1:00 am when LUST wrapped the segment with Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning, Want You Back and Just As I Am — their smash cover of the Air Supply ballad.
