Kingston’s Spoilers gang war claim another victim
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An on-going gang feud in the hot-bed downtown Kingston community known as Spoilers has claimed another victim.
Police report that about 2:00 pm yesterday a man was walking along Sutton Street in downtown Kingston when armed assailants pounced on him and peppered him with bullets.
The man identified as Kwame Cunningham, died on the spot.
The Central Kingston police say an internal gang feud has claimed a number of lives and resulted in a number of shooting injuries since the start of the year.
The community known as Spoilers is bordered by East Queen Street, South Camp Road, North Street and Wildman Street in downtown Kingston.
Police say a criminal outfit which uses the community as their stomping ground has been imploding and as a result tensions are high.
“They are warring amongst themselves, the attackers and the victims all know each other. It is an on-going, internal gang war. We have increased our presence in the area, but despite our best efforts, the bloodshed continues,” one cop told the Jamaica Observer.
