Deejay Vetta remembers the ‘best thing’
UP-AND-COMING entertainer Vetta believes his fusion of dancehall and reggae is what will give him his big break.
He is pinning his hopes on his latest single Best Thing, which is produced by Camelback Records.
According to Vetta, whose real name is Sandre McDonald, the track is about the pain and memories experienced after a break-up.
“It’s a real-life story about heartbreak,” Vetta told the Jamaica Observer. “Many people can relate to it.”
Born in St Ann, the 30-year-old said he had his musical beginnings while in the Higgins Land New Testament Church choir.
“My grandparents were big in the church… one was an evangelist and the other a choir director,” he said. “Me used to sing pon the choir too.”
Moving to Kingston in 1996, the former York Castle High and St Andrew Technical High student said his passion was fuelled by American R&B singer Whitney Houston, Bruno Mars, rapper Tupac Shakur, Vybz Kartel, Sizzla Kalonji, Konshens, and Romain Virgo.
“If me neva a do music, I probably would be an architect. Technical drawing was my favourite subject when me a go school,” he said.
He has so far released I’m a Rebel, Pass An’ Gone, and Freedom Street.
“Music is my life, it flows through my veins. When everybody gone, music is always here,” he said.
