Jazz up your Look
BEFORE - Kadian Russell
Lifestyle, Local Lifestyle, Style, Style Observer, Tuesday Style, Under the Dryer
June 21, 2013

Jazz up your Look

Need a new hairdo but have no idea how to get it? Under the Dryer is here to bring you one step closer to that desired look. This week we visited the Barber Centre and Spa where we learnt some easy ways to jazz up an old look. Perhaps a little colour here and a few curls there will give you that new look you long for. It can be as easy as 1-2-3… literally!

Client: Kadian Russell, Cashier

Hairstylist: Tamika Douglas

Hairdo: Spiral curls

Russell’s hair was already coloured and straightened, but she grew tired of the straight hair look. Her hairstylist decided that adding spiral curls to her hair would suit her face shape and would give her the new look she desired. Here’s how she did it:

Steps:

• Part hair in small sections.

Tip: Smaller sections mean more curls; if you want less curls then section hair accordingly.

• Spray hair with Motions Light Hold Spritz. This will hold the curls in place and will also add volume and sheen to the look.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to add curls and…voilà! Your new ‘do’.

Client: Kenisha Talbot, Nail technician

Hairstylist: Tamika Douglas

Hairdo: Relax and curl

Short hair is no excuse to be boring, so go ahead and experiment. Follow these steps hairstylist Tamika Douglas gives as she shows you ways to rock short hair.

Steps:

• Trim hair, including split ends, then divide hair into four quadrants.

• Section hair and apply Motions Hair Relaxer from the roots.

• Shampoo hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo.

• Dry excess water from hair with a towel, put on a steam cap and sit under the dryer for approximately 15- 20 minutes.

• After hair is completely dry, apply Motions Oil Moisturizer Hair Lotion from roots to ends.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to add flip curls to top and smaller curls to bottom.

Client: Nadine Isaacs, Nail technician

Hairstylist: Alicia Hawthorne

Hairdo: Wash, cut and colour

Adding colour to anything always gives it a new look. If you want an easy way to transition, find out what colour suits you and get to colouring.

Steps:

• Trim hair including split ends, then divide hair into quadrants.

• Combine Morfose bleaching powder with Color Charm clear developer volume 20.

• Section hair and apply mixture.

• Shampoo hair with Motions Lavish Conditioning Shampoo.

• Sit under dryer for 20 minutes.

• Use Smooth ‘N’ Shine Polishing Instant Repair Hair Polisher to add moisture to hair to prepare it for curling.

• Use a ceramic curling iron to style as desired.
