Randall wants chance to make ‘B’ standard at CAC Games
AFTER an injury interrupted the start to her 2013 season, two-time national discus throw champion Allison Randall is hoping she will get the chance to make the qualifying standard for the IAAF World Championships in Moscow in August.
Randall, an Olympian last year, threw a season-best 58.97m to retain her title at the JAAA/Supreme Ventures National Senior Championships at the National Stadium, but was still less than a metre short of the ‘B’ qualifying standard for Moscow, and said she hopes to compete at the Central American and Caribbean Championships in Mexico in early July.
The US-born athlete, who is based in Virginia and holds the national record 61.21m set last year, said the lack of competition and a back injury two weeks before the Jamaica International Invitational has set her back, but she is confident she can get the qualifying mark for Moscow.
“I know I can get (the qualifying mark) it’s just one metre to go and I have been improving every time I throw, so I hope I get selected for CAC,” she told the Jamaica Observer.
Randall, who has to work and train while pursuing a Master’s Degree, says her objective now is to get healthy and stronger. “I just need to get back into the weight room and work hard, but I know I have it in me to do well.”
