Mirimar, USA – Jencare Skin Farm and Day Spa may set up shop in either Atlanta, Washington DC or Canada. This isn’t only being considered because clients venture from those areas to Miami to use the Jamaican spa, but it’s a part of the company’s vision to grow internationally.

Ever since opening a business on Ludlam Road, South Florida over a decade ago, the company has seen tremendous growth, says Peta-Gaye Samuda, the head of US operations, marketing and skincare research at Jencare Skin Farm.

So outstanding a work Samuda has been doing in Florida, she has been named as one of the awardees of Legacy Magazine’s ’40 Under 40 Leaders of Today and Tomorrow’ for 2013 in the area of business. The award will be given on July 12.

“This award means a lot to me, it’s not just me, it’s Jencare, it’s not just Jencare, it’s Jamaica,” she said.

Samuda is the daughter of the founders — Jennifer and Lloyd Samuda — of the leading Jamaican spa.

Along with Florida, Jencare Skin Farm has locations in New York and Trinidad & Tobago. According to Samuda, the business in the Sunshine State has seen tremendous growth since it opened there. For example, Jencare has 22 more categories of skin care now than when it first started in the sunshine state, she said.

It has seen about 95 per cent growth in customers, based on Samuda’s estimates. Further more, Jencare two years ago relocated to Miramar, to a store that is four times the size of the first one and has a staff complement that is three times more than the original.

“Our current area has a stronger Caribbean market, and overall it has more diversity in terms of customers,” said Samuda.

But the CEO isn’t daunted by the strong competition she has in the American market. In fact, the gratification she gets outweighs the challenges.

“It’s been very rewarding, we have had a few celebrities… we didn’t expect the magnitude of the success we’ve had,” she told Caribbean Business Report.

Jencare isn’t just a spa owned and operated by Jamaicans, it’s a world-class spa, said the businesswoman who holds a Master’s degree in electrochemical studies of peptides. The company provides facials, laser hair removal, massages and body treatment, to name a few. It also manufactures and sells collagen mousse, antiageing neck collagen and soaps.

“We have moved with the evolving skincare technology,” she said. “We’ve gone beyond basic facials, but services such as muscle toning.”

Much research has been done into the types of services offered and the products the company manufactures.

“We provide quality, for example, if you were to zoom in on an image of our work, you’ll see perfection,” said Samuda.

There’s no stopping now for Jencare.

The director said: “Anything is possible, we want to grow, but we’ll be consistent and move on.”
