Total package for Portland Jerk Fest
PORTLAND Jerk Festival organisers say patrons attending this year’s staging at Folly Ruins on Sunday will be “totally entertained”.
“In addition to the wide array of food offerings, there’ll be some activity to engage patrons from the moment they step in,” said Kasey Bourne, chairman of 21st Century 20/20 Vision Foundation, owners of the Portland Jerk Festival brand.
“There’ll be a kiddies village, domino tournament, a book tent, a museum bus with Jamaican artefacts, Digicel giveaways, Supreme Venture games, as well as entertainment on stage. There has never been this much activity for patrons,” Bourne continued.
Bourne said the event, now in its 14th year, has Best Dressed Chicken as its title sponsor, and is catering to the entire family.
Jamaica Cultural Development Commission’s gospel finalists; past festival song winners Tinga Stewart, Roy Rayon and Eric Donaldson; Alaine; Mr Vegas; The Jolly Boys; One Third, and Lubert Levy are scheduled to perform.
“Miss Jamaica World contestants will be spending the day,” said Bourne.
There will be also be presentations by the Culinary Federation of Jamaica, which recently copped food awards in Miami.
“People overseas see jerk as gourmet. The Culinary Federation has agreed to demonstrate how jerk is presented to Europeans,” he said.
