Wyndham leaves Kgn
THE Wyndham Hotel Group is pulling its name from the property on Knutsford Boulevard, bringing to an end a long association that brought prestige to the New Kingston hotel district.
News of the pull-out was communicated to managers yesterday morning at a meeting called at the 303-room hotel.
It was not immediately clear what influenced the decision, which takes effect on July 13. However, one employee of the hotel, which is now being renovated after a fire in March forced it to be closed, speculated that the “general state of the hotel” may have been the reason.
An attempt to get a comment from the Wyndham Worldwide office in New Jersey, USA, yesterday afternoon was unsuccessful.
The Wyndham Kingston has been at the centre of a legal battle between Ocean Chimo, which owns the hotel, and RBC Royal Bank Jamaica and RBC Royal Bank Trinidad since August 2011.
Ocean Chimo has been placed in receivership for debts estimated at more than US$30 million.
But the debt is being disputed by Delroy Howell, head of Ocean Chimo.
The Wyndham is the second major resort to pull out of Jamaica in the past two months. In May, the Ritz-Carlton announced that the property in Rosehall, just outside Montego Bay, will no longer be operated under that brand.
