Assassin in it to stay
DEEJAY Assassin (aka Agent Sasco) says his recent collaboration with rap heavyweight Kanye West may be the tonic his career needed.
Assassin, who has been knocking at the door for some time, appears on I’m On It. The song is from West’s latest album Yeezus.
Without going into details, Assassin (real name Jeffrey Campbell) says the link with the Grammy-winning West has opened new doors.
“Since the release, I have been receiving offers to do verses with other big names in the industry… opportunities that I am grateful for,” he said, adding: “While it is a good look for my career it is not really about me, it is more about what it can do for dancehall. For years, people have been saying that the music is dying but there is still hope.”
Assassin emerged on the dancehall scene 12 years ago. While critics have hailed him as one of the genre’s more creative performers, he has not yet to make the elite rank.
Best known for songs like Ruffest, Pull Up, Idiot Ting Dat and Mi Late, Assassin is scheduled to perform on Reggae Sumfest’s Dancehall Night on July 25.
