No chance other MVP athletes shared supplements — James
MONTEGO BAY, St James — The chance of other athletes in the MVP camp sharing and thus testing positive for the banned substance from the allegedly tainted supplement given to Asafa Powell and Sherone Simpson is almost nil, says the club President Bruce James.
Powell and Simpson, who failed drug tests at the JAAA National Senior Championships after their samples returned traces of the banned ‘oxilofrine’ (methylsynephrine) following their respective 100m finals on June 21 at the National Stadium, have blamed supplements provided to them by Canadian trainer Christopher Xeureb. However, this has not yet been confirmed through testing.
Nonetheless, there were fears that the supplements could have been shared by other members of the club, but James said that possibility was almost non-existent.
In an interview with the Jamaica Observer on Tuesday, James said the athletes would not use the supplements that were supplied by the Paul Doyle-hired trainer Xeureb.
Doyle, who is the agent for Powell and Simpson, as well as 400m runner Shericka Williams, had hired the Canadian to treat Powell and Simpson, both of whom were battling injuries at the time, James explained.
“Xeureb was not a part of the MVP set-up, he was not employed by us, and so he would not have any interactions with any of the other athletes,” James said. The club president added that Xeureb might not even have anything to do with Williams, who was not battling an injury at the time.
