ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, (CMC) — Grenada police Wednesday said they would adopt a zero policy stance regarding the wearing of camouflage clothing in public and warned both visitors and locals to desist from doing so, especially as the island gears up for the annual Carnival celebrations next month.

“The law is pretty clear about people wearing military clothes but yet Customs releases them,” said Assistant Commissioner of Police Edvin Martin, who also noted that not all attire being sold in shops here had entered the island through an authorised port of entry.

Martin said that a number of people have been seen in public wearing military-type clothing and some were even entering the island dressed in such clothing.

“The colour is not important, once it is reflective of military attire it’s an offence,” Martin said as he explained that the law was very clear regarding any patterned materials used for making military uniforms.

Anyone convicted of an offence under the law could face a fine of EC$10,000 or imprisonment for a year.
