Big stars for NY Irie Jamboree
THE Caribbean Fever Irie Jamboree Music Festival, scheduled for Brooklyn, New York, from August 30-September 1, will pay homage to Afro-Caribbean music.
It is the showpiece of the annual West Indian Labour Day Carnival and Parade held in the New York City borough which is home to generations of Caribbean immigrants.
The three-day music festival takes place at the Barclays Center, home of the Brooklyn Nets basketball team.
It will highlight three Caribbean genres — reggae, soca and French Creole music.
The French-inspired sounds of zouk takes centre stage on opening night with Haitian star Wyclef Jean as headliner.
“I am thrilled to be a part of this truly amazing event and my fans can expect a barrage of hits from me on that Friday night,” said Jean recently.
Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley headlines closing night, dubbed Irie Jamboree.
This year’s show is a merger of two popular West Indian events — Irie Jamboree and Caribbean Fever Music Festival, which are both held in New York City.
