‘Spoilers’ gang war rages in Kingston
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Despite the best efforts of the police, rival factions in a downtown Kingston community known as ‘Spoilers’ have been wreaking havoc on residents.
At least eight murders have been recorded in the area since June.
The bloodletting allegedly started when a dispute developed over an illegal firearm.
“One set of men gave a man in the community a quantity of cash to purchase an illegal firearm. However, the gun was not handed over neither did the man return the cash. That resulted in a drive-by shooting. Since then we have ‘lived’ in the community and the war cooled a little but people are still dying as we can’t be everywhere all at once,” a cop who did not wish to be identified told the Jamaica Observer.
The ‘Spoilers’ community is bordered by East Queen Street, Camp Road, North Street and East Street.
