UWC send-off
This year’s departing crew for the United World Colleges (UWC), back row: Gervaise Prescod, Nevada Powe, Axel Kravatsky, Savannah May, Stefan Richards and Astrid Batchelor; middle: Danielle Brown, Cathryn O’Sullivan and Akilah Sykes; and front: Tamaisha Eytle, Keva Chang, Carissa Reid and Tiffany McKenzie. The group was recently hosted by Diana and Wayne Chen at their home in Mandeville. This year four Jamaicans have been awarded scholarships to undertake their International Baccalaureate at one of the 12 UWC international schools. The artistic Keva Chang hails from Campion College and will take up a position at the UWC Hong Kong; Carissa Reid, a mathematician and cellist from Hampton, goes to UWC in Pune, India; Vanina Morisson, who started her own NGO Vanish, is from the American International School and goes to New Mexico; and Tiffany McKenzie, a violist from Immaculate goes off to UWC Maastricht, Netherlands. At the Chen’s poolside send-off, the new scholarship winners were joined by current student Gervaise Prescod who is at UWC British Columbia; Stefan Richards who just graduated from UWC Wales; and several other alumni. UWC aims to resolve conflicts through education and affiliation. The network of schools around the world has over 156 countries represented. Nevada Powe chairs the local selection committee.
