THE writing/director duo of Patrick Brown and Trevor Nairne seem to have another hit on their hands with Ladies of The Night, now playing at Centrestage Theatre in New Kingston.

Billed as a comedy about four street walkers, the play is bouyed by a fine cast. The ‘Ladies’ — Cherry, Juicy, Honey and Sugar — come to life thanks to the efforts of Sharee McDonald-Russell, Camille Davis, Sakina Deer and Keisha Patterson.

All share a street corner to ply their wares and, when off duty, share an apartment. It’s an all-for-one, one-for-all scenario…that is until Mr Big, Carlos, played by the venerable Glen ‘Titus’ Campbell, pulls up in his Mercedes.

The funny lines are made even better thanks to the bad wigs and costumes worn by the foursome. Deer’s abilty to maintain her ‘nook’ hand for the entire production is commendable. Davis has developed sound comedic timing over the years and this serves her well as she delivers some of the best punch-lines.

Ladies of The night also benefits from a great soundtrack.

Music forms an integral part of this production and popular tracks fill the theatre at appropriate points. But it is the singing of the ladies which could take this play into the realm of a musical.

Their rendition of The Impossible Dream earned spontaneous applause from the audience.

Although the principals at Centrestage are known to stay away from the local Actor Boy Awards, this production should be on many a ballot come next year.
