Beaches, RIU battle in Sandals Business House semis
RIU Ocho Rios and Beaches Ocho Rios, the two hottest teams in the Sandals St Ann/St Mary Business House Football Competition square off today in the second semi-final of that league at Drax Hall field starting at 3:30 pm.
Both teams enter today’s fray on a high, with RIU destroying Margaritaville 9-2, and Beaches trouncing Golden Eye Resorts 8-1 in recent matches. As a result, the squads are displaying sky-high confidence and ready for the battle at hand.
Coach of RIU Ocho Rios, Phillip Barrett, was a happy man after the recent victory, and he expressed pride at the performance of all the players. “We have strong and skilled players and feel this is our year to win the competition. We are determined and confident of a win,” Barrett said.
RIU’s charge will be led by Alrick McCalla, who scored a double against Margaritaville and is one of the deadliest strikers in the competition. Other players to watch include Oshane Allen, Anthony Laconshire, and Mario Harrison .
Beaches Ocho Rios are also bubbling with confidence after two recent victories, scoring 11 goals in the process.
“We have come a long way since the start of the season and will be going all out to make the final,” noted team manager Lennox Green. “We know that RIU is a very good team and we will not be taking them lightly, but at the same time we know we have a solid team and are capable of beating anybody if we play well.”
Beaches are also the highest scoring team in the competition, notching a tally of 19 goals. RIU, however, were almost as impressive, scoring 17 goals.
The grand final will take place on Sunday at Drax Hall, starting at 1:30 pm.
