FOOTBALL boss Captain Horace Burrell last night denied suggestions that Jamaica’s final CONCACAF World Cup qualifying match against Honduras set for Kingston would be rescheduled to Miami in Florida.

The game, which is the final one of the hexagonal play-offs, is due to be played at the National Stadium at 8:00 pm, four days after the Reggae Boyz face the USA in Kansas City in a must-win game if they hope to give themselves a shot at the fourth-place play-off spot.

“There are no plans for such a thing… I am hearing that for the first time today (yesterday) and have no clue where it originated, and as far as I am concerned, it is just a rumour. What I know for sure is the game is planned for the ‘Office’ and it will be played at 8:00 pm. We are still hopeful that we have a chance in the World Cup campaign and why would we even think about such a thing.

“Irrespective, we would never give up our home advantage,” said Burrell, the JFF president, last night.

Honduras, currently third in the tournament on 13 points, are fighting to join the USA (16 points) and Costa Rica (15 points) as the two CONCACAF teams that have already booked their place to Brazil 2014.

Costa Rica secured their place following a 1-1 draw with Jamaica inside the National Stadium on Tuesday night.

Jamaica sit at the bottom of the standings on four points, with Mexico and Panama above them on eight each — all three set to do battle for the fourth qualifying spot which would see the successful nation engage Oceania’s champion New Zealand in a home-and-away play-off in November.

Meanwhile, Burrell said that while he was disappointed with the turnout of Jamaicans at the National Stadium on Tuesday, he understood the reason.

“It’s understandable why the people stayed away as the results in the qualifiers have not been going our way… but we are still hopeful that things will go our way in the remaining matches. Also, I continue to urge my fellow Jamaicans to continue to support the team.

“I know Jamaicans love a winner and right now we are not winning, but I would love to urge them that we need them now more than ever now that our backs are against the wall,” Burrell told the Jamaica Observer.

In Tuesday night’s match, the visiting Costa Ricans outnumbered Jamaicans, a rare sight inside the Boyz’s fortress known as ‘The Office’.

“While I wanted to see Jamaicans outnumbering the Costa Ricans on Tuesday, their visit here was good from a sports tourism perspective and would have had a positive impact on the economy of Kingston. So from that point of view, their visit was good,” said the CONCACAF vice-president.
