The Shay’s Way

Under the Dryer

We’re at Shay’s Day Spa & Beauty Clinic where Keisha Peynado and her team show you how to switch things up with tress-up tricks guaranteed to turn heads all month long.

Tip: Detox hair at least one week prior to relaxing. Peynado recommends the RedKen Chemistry Pre Art Treatment to remove dirt build-up and cleanse hair.

Client #1: Cheryl Neil

Customer Service Representative/Publicist

Hairstylist: Keisha Peynado

Hairdo: Relax and Cut

Steps:

1. Relax Hair using Design Essential Relaxer Kit to straighten.

2. Shampoo with Design Essential Neutralising shampoo, then use Design Essential moisture retention conditioner to soften.

3. Apply Design Essential BN1 Reconstructive conditioner and sit under dryer for 15 minutes or until completely dry.

4. Cut hair to give it a different look, then apply RedKen soft-spin curl-enhancing gel and crystal curl-defining shine gel to add small curls to hair.

5. Apply crème of Nature with Argan oil to the edges of the hair to moisturise.

6. Spray with KeraCare oil sheen for a glossy finish.

Client #2: Carolyn Keene

Hairstylist: Jacqueline Morris

Hairdo: Cut and Colour

Tip: Pixies are a great way to keep a ‘cool head’. Add excitement to your crop with accessories; headbands are especially trendy.

Steps:

1. Relax hair to straighten.

2. Section hair and cut in a layered mohawk to the desired length.

3. Use a special mix of Dudley’s Fantastic Colours conditioning hair colour (temporary to semi-permanent hair colour is suitable for persons who wish to return to their natural hair colour).

4. Shampoo hair with Olive Oil Aloe shampoo and apply replenishing conditioner.

5. Towel dry hair and apply colour mixture to sections of the hair beginning at the roots.

6. Sit under steamer for approximately 15 minutes then rinse colour from the hair.

7. Apply wrap lotion to set hair, wrap and sit under dryer until completely dry.

8. Use a flat iron to straighten back and add curls to the crown of the head.

Client #3: Tandene Smith

Unemployed

Hairstylist: Jacqueline Morris

Hairdo: Cut and Curl

Steps:

1. Use Olive Oil relaxer treatment to straighten hair, then cut hair in short graded layers to get rid of damaged hair and split ends.

Tip: It is always better to use the same brand of products when relaxing the hair, so if you use the olive oil kit to relax, use the Olive oil shampoos and conditioner to finish off the treatment.

2. After hair is shampooed, add Dudley’s red colour rinse to the ends, then sit under dryer until completely dry.

3. Rinse colour from hair.

4. Apply wrap lotion to set hair, wrap and sit under dryer until completely dry.

5. Use a flat iron to straighten back and add curls to the crown of the head.

Client #4: Renee Johnson

Hairstylist: Keisha Peynado

Hairdo: Straighten and Curl

Steps:

1. A trichoscope — which helps determine how to treat different hair textures — was used by the hairstylist to analyse the hair scalp and follicles.

2. Wash hair with RedKen Smooth Lock shampoo for dry hair.

3. Apply RedKen smooth activator semi-permanent smoother and leave in for 15 -30 minutes, depending on hair texture.

4. Wash hair using RedKen shampoo and rinse with RedKen conditioner.

5. Apply RedKen Smooth Sealer to damp hair and blow-dry.

6. Apply RedKen Smooth Lock heat guide and use a flat iron to straighten and style as desired.

Tip: Use only RedKen oils and leave in treatments to maximise results. A treatment like this will last up to two weeks if proper hair care is maintained.
