Two time National Premier League champions, Drewsland-based club Waterhouse C have sought to bring in a group of young, talented players to help shore up success and greater resiliency in the coming season.

The season’s motto is, therefore: “Need To Win Now.”

Co-coach Anthony Patrick articulated his frustration thus: “As one of the first ranked teams in the National Premier League, to be without a premier football title for so long is quite unnatural. It is some seven years since they last won the National Premier League title and that was back in the 2006/2007 football season. Since then, we have only shown glimpses of promise; but promise that lacks conviction has no teeth. It has to bite and go on to overcome.

“What the failed results to deliver have taught us over the past few seasons is that, to be successful, it takes great effort and Herculean perseverance. Success must therefore be built on the idea of maximum effort, and in this respect, we are setting out to enhance our position by putting to work a potent blend of our senior players with a decent crop of youthful talent to help realise the dream that takes us to the top.

“We have been knocking on the door for the top berth for the past couple of seasons, without success. Last season is a testimony to this as we really played well with very little to show for our late season and that was what prompted the management staff to take a definitive stance to introduce some useful talent like Marvin Morgan from Boys’ Town to add punch and creativity to the middle of the line-up.

“We also have the gifted Lamar Nelson, formerly of Arnett Gardens, and Romario Campbell, the former Harbour View player who can be slotted into the top midfield position. We are also looking forward to see Vincent Earle back in serious training any time now.”

Present, too, are Linval Wilson, a central defender from relegated Savannah SC. the versatile and talented Richard Edite, Juvaune Benjamin, De Andre Brown, Gary McIntosh, who along with some youthful faces are also present to join Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson in the goalscoring department.

Stalwarts of the past two seasons include Hughan Gray, Troy Reid, Owen Walters, Nicholi Finlayson, one of the most overlooked talents in local top-class football, the vastly improved Rohan Amos, Hugh Howell, along with Under-20 captain Oshane Roberts, who has moved up into the senior ranks to help maintain a deeper body of players for the coming season’s resolve. In the goalkeeping department, national custodian Richard McCallum will have Guion Douglas, formerly of Pembroke Hall, as his understudy in goal.

Added Patrick: “So far, Junior Francis and myself are encouraged how the build-up is going thus far with the training preparation. This is something that we sat down, worked to get the players in the habit of playing hard at all times, so that it becomes a habit-forming custom. So the youthful vigour and enthusiasm that is present in training is planned. Therefore, all that is needed for us to do when called upon to execute is to keep a cool head and our concentration, so as to be able to get the job done with the best result possible.”
