Drewsland welcome Cavalier in RSPL

BUOYED by their two new signees, Waterhouse FC are on the hunt for their second consecutive win when they host Cavalier SC in the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) match scheduled for 5:00 pm at Drewsland today.

In the other games, Arnett Gardens tackle August Town; Harbour View travel to Boys’ Town; Montego Bay United take on Sporting Central Academy; Portmore United play Humble Lion; and Rivoli United host Tivoli Gardens.

At Drewsland, the talented duo of Romario Campbell and Marvin Morgan Jnr, formerly of Harbour View and Boys’ Town respectively, have caught the eye with outstanding displays.

Campbell, a former national Under-20 playmaker, who was groomed to take over from Jermaine Hue at Harbour View, struck on his debut against Boys’ Town and caught the eye of national head coach Winfried Schäfer. He followed that up netting three times in Waterhouse’s 7-1 thrashing of Port Morant United in the Flow Champions Cup on Thursday.

Morgan, who scored against his old club last Sunday, will miss today’s match because he received his second yellow card while celebrating his late strike by taking off his shirt. He, too, was in fine form netting twice against Port Morant United in midweek.

The outspoken Jermaine ‘Tuffy’ Anderson, who said three games couldn’t pass without him scoring, will have to be contained by Cavalier if they intend to deny Waterhouse victory.

But the David Laylor-coached Cavalier won’t be sitting targets, which is evident by their 1-0 win over Portmore United last Sunday, and in Claudius Blackburn, they too have a hitman to whom special attention must be paid.

Meanwhile, champions Harbour View will be hoping to rebound from their opening day loss against perennial rival Boys’ Town, who are also looking for their first win.

Harbour View dominated Sporting Central Academy in terms of possession, but crashed to a 0-2 defeat, and Boys’ Town will have to be at their best to deny the champions from picking up their first win of the season.

Former champions Portmore United take on the hard-running Humble Lion in what should be an interesting match-up.

Portmore lost to Cavalier last Sunday, but rebounded in the Flow Champions Cup to beat Barbican FC, while Humble Lion clipped Arnett Gardens 1-0 last Sunday, but were whipped 4-0 by the same opponent in the all-island knock-out competition last Thursday.

Playing at home, Portmore United are tipped to get their first win of the season, but it won’t be an easy one against Humble Lion.

At Catherine Hall, home team Montego Bay United host in-form Sporting Central Academy in what should be an intriguing encounter between two fast-paced teams.

Sporting Central blanked Harbour View 2-0 on the opening day while Montego Bay lost 0-1 to Tivoli Gardens and both clash today in a game that can go either way.

The slick-looking Tivoli Gardens, fresh from their win over Montego Bay United and an impressive 4-2 win over Boys’ Town in the knock-out competition, are favoured to see off Rivoli United at the Spanish Town Prison Oval.

Kaemmar Daley, Dwayne Smith, Jameel Thompson, Christopher Jackson, Damion Gordon, and Kemar Flemmings should prove too hot to handle for Rivoli United.
